'Beat Sneak Bandit' Is Bursting With Originality & Will Steal Your Heart

Reviews

Beat Sneak Bandit by Simogo perfectly blends music, animation and gameplay and the result is a wholly original game that can easily be enjoyed by just about anyone. Simogo is the creator of the super fantastic Bumpy Road app which made our Best iPhone & iPad Apps From 2011 list. Although we are early in 2012, we have a sneaking suspicion Simogo will have another one of their apps make our best apps list this year. The backstory involves an evil man named Duke Clockface stealing every clock in Pulsebury City. With no sense of time, all of Pulsebury City loses organization and begin to panic. However an interesting character named Beat Sneak Bandit and his sidekick frog, Herbie, attempt to save Pulsebury City by retrieving all the clocks from Duke Clockeface's mansion. Players must attempt to guide the bandit in the confusing, puzzle-like mansion through multiple stages without getting caught by security.

The music is essential to the game since players must move the bandit to the beat in order to move around. Although the music is not diverse, the consistent beat helps the player find some ground and focus on the puzzle aspect of the game. With funky and catchy beats, I was able to enjoy the music and play simultaneously, which is rare for me because I would rather play iOS games without music. In fact, every time I play I cannot help but tap my foot to the this game's music.  The trumpets and quirky sound effects definitely added hype and character to the game. The puzzle aspect offers a lot of critical thinking. Even though most of the stages display the same layout- staircases, different floors, cameras- the clocks are placed in particular areas difficult to search. Here players must find a way to beat the system (pun intended) and avoid all the obstacles in order to reach the clocks. What makes this game more challenging is the need to constantly follow the music's beat since some obstacles require following it without stopping or else its game over! In other words, think about your moves before you begin because once you start you must keep going. Overall, the puzzles offer a challenge but ease any potential frustration with great music and cartoony animation.

The animation is spectacular. Although I found it cheesy at first, the characters and interface design are very well put together. With geometric shapes and interesting color schemes, I started to really appreciate the game's uniqueness. I found the design to be rather artistic but playful at the same time. If you look closely, even a few objects in the background move to the beat making the game even more alive and exciting. As for the Beat Sneak Bandit character, he looks slick as he snaps his fingers with a smirk. Check out Beat Sneak Bandit and feel the music. This game does not disappoint and will gently compel you to tap your foot all day long. Beat Sneak Bandit is sure to steal your heart and make time melt away in gaming and music bliss.
