Whether you’re looking for a missing cat, you want to buy a cheap second-hand TV, or you want to advertise guitar lessons, this is the truly local social networking app that will enable you to connect with people who live in your immediate vicinity.

I think this is a charming idea for an app.

I can’t vouch for its effectiveness in terms of connecting users with helpful people in their local area because there are no fellow Urban5 users near me; however, I am very impressed with what I’ve seen of this app so far and would definitely recommend that you guys check it out.

Welcome to the Neighborhood

When you first start using Urban5 you’ll be prompted to create a user account. This can be done by using your Facebook account so it should only take a minute or two. You’ll also need to specify your address so that the app can begin detecting other users in the nearby vicinity.

Once you’ve completed the registration process, you’ll be able to start searching for your neighbors. Unfortunately, I don’t have anyone close enough to my location to test how well this app can connect you with other users, but the activity feed is still worth taking a look at.

 

Meet the Neighbors

In the activity feed, you’ll be able to see people who have recently signed up for the service, and you can also tap the neighbors tab in the top right-hand corner of the screen in order to access a map view of your area and see which users are currently within your radius.

Urban5 is predicated on letting you know when people are within walking distance of your address.

I think this is a wonderfully fresh spin on social networking because although global sites like Facebook and Twitter are awesome ways of connecting with other people online, they can be a little impersonal from time to time, and you may never even meet the people that you chat to on a daily basis.

• This app appears to still be in its infancy, both in terms of functionality and the size of its user-base, but please do download it so that the community can grow further!
• Might not be safe for all users

Urban5 is actually a very exciting concept, and I can really see it becoming hugely popular.

I’m going to keep this app on my iPhone for a while because I have very high expectations for it, so I would definitely recommend that you do the same!
