Gun Sounds Catalog app review: collect and listen to your own library of firearm sound effects

Reviews

Introduction

The Gun Sounds Catalog app could be a life saver to anyone who works with audio or video, including myself. A free library of sound effects is always a good thing, but one that includes various guns is something we all look for.

More Than Just Guns

The free version of the Gun Sounds Catalog app comes equipped with the sounds for six assault rifles, six shotguns, three sniper rifles, and also has a section for miscellaneous weapons such as grenade launchers and stun guns. The audio for each weapon is an exceptional recording of the real thing. Each one is clear and distinct, allowing you to easily differentiate between the sound of an AK-47 and a MP5.

Gun Sounds Catalog goes beyond the mere weapons side of things and includes genre-specific soundtrack clips, sounds, and short dialog sequences. All the sounds clips and music you would require for making a short film are all here in one app.

All of this is included in the free version of Gun Sounds Catalog; you can purchase additional sound packs individually for $1.99 each or upgrade the entire app for $3.99. For everything you get it seems like a great bargain, but with something this great there is always a downside.

Now To Use These Sounds

As great as the size of the library and the quality of the audio in the Gun Sounds Catalog app is, there is no way to export them from the app to use them. When I first opened this app I was so insanely excited to find a complete library of effects like this that I did very little research past what was included as far as sounds.

Well now that I have downloaded Gun Sounds Catalog, investigated all the options and different sounds included I am psyched to start using them. But unfortunately they are only available to listen to from within the app. Outside of that I can also read up on the various guns I'm listening to by tapping the info button next to the firearm type.

That's it: you can listen to the sounds, read up on the gun listened to, and nothing more.

Final Thoughts

The Gun Sounds Catalog app has the potential of being one of the most widely used apps by anyone out there who works with audio, video, or film. The sound quality for every sample included is fantastic, so it's heart breaking to think the developers only allow us to listen and not have the ability to use the sounds in our productions
