Introduction
Calculator by The App Tower Inc. is a small basic iPhone calculator app. You can change the skin to colors you prefer, but that’s really it. I played with it for a while trying to figure out why I would download this calculator app instead of using the included calculator in the iOS.

Simple Basic Calculator
Calculator is a simple basic calculator. You can add, subtract, multiply, and divide, as well as do integers in positive and negative numbers. For calculator functionality, this is really it.
The best calculator apps for the iPhone
Unlike the built-in app, you cannot rotate the screen to add functions. You can alter the appearance by selecting a different skin under the settings; however, many of these options are only available at a fee.
Additionally, because this is the free version, there are many, MANY, ads: lots more than I have found in other free apps. There is one when you launch, every few actions, and it just keeps going.
Not Worth the Hassle
While Calculator works as a calculator, and the skins are nice, the ads every few seconds are really distracting when you are trying to actually use the app for your grocery trip, homework, budget, or whatever. This was such a bother that I uninstalled it shortly after the review in favor of the ad-free built-in.
Best iphone and ipad apps
This app does not have anything additional to the built-in, and in fact has fewer features. Where the built-in can rotate screen to provide a scientific calculator, Calculator only has the absolute basic functions available. It does not have percent, and only includes seven digits for your calculations.
After that it enters a scientific notation mode (i.e. 3.33e10 for 3,333,333,333). While this may be useful for older students, it is not helpful if a Grade Four student is trying to add 231,457,689 with 356,784,294. There are simply not enough spaces and these students have not yet learned scientific notation.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- works fine as a basic calculator
- skin customization is nice
Cons
- does not rotate to more functionality as the basic built-in app does
- only seven digits
- free version has a LOT of ads
- the number of ads make it difficult to use the calculator without being distracted
- skins can be purchased additionally, but do not increase functionality
Final Thoughts
Calculator works fine as a basic calculator, but the constant pop up ads are very distracting and make getting anything done with it nearly impossible.
It does have skins, but does not rotate to more functionality. Basically, unless you’re willing to purchase the full version to have a pretty skin, save your time and money.
