There are a wealth of iPhone apps that kids can now use on smartphones or tablets today that will really get their creative talents bubbling while keeping them engrossed on a long car journey, or flight – stewardess permitting – that are mostly free or inexpensive. Creative Book Builder Price: $3.99 Current version rating: 4/5 from28 With this easy to use program and its simple interface, your child can effortlessly put together one of their imaginary tales and with chapters they can add images and videos, import documents and put together a glossary plus there are many more features. Reviews for this kids app are very positive and you can quickly save and back up your ebook to your dropbox and then share it to your book center when completed.  
Helicopter Taxi Price: $1.99 Current version rating: 4/5 from 132 On the downside this app does involve your child moving your iPhone round the room at sometimes quite a pace so not particularly that iPhone friendly. That said, it is quite a catch for 4 years and up. To fly the chopper you move the iPhone then flip and turn it to check out all the different angles where you get to see both pilots – Rita and Skip. To land, lay the iPhone flat and then you can relax, until a new passenger gets aboard and you then fly to your next destination. Some movement obviously involved, so if you lovingly treasure your iPhone this may not be the game for your little one!  
Pocket Frogs Price: Free Current version rating: 4.5/5 from 29’846 This is a wonderfully fun free app where your child has to start by feeding the little frogs. As they develop into different little frogies, their value goes up and to keep them happy they must be fed more and more until you sell them and start the process all over again! You can play online or offline and there are over 60 prizes to choose from. The graphics are gorgeous and with 15’000 varieties of frogs to breed a single game last for ever!  
Disney Fairies Fly Price: $4.99 Current version rating: 3.5/5 from 1168 This app gets mixed reviews where age for 4 it’s argued to be too difficult and for the slightly older it’s a synch, so difficult one to call. Otherwise reviews by mums are pretty positive! In the heart of Never Land, you fly with fairies and discover some of the magical little places like Pixie Hollow. By tilting your iPhone to guide one of the fairies, you score points by collecting pixie dust and revealing new secrets. Effortless fun!  
Jelly Car 2 Price: $0.99 Current version rating: 4/5 from 1322 With 30 levels, your child has to drive the wobbly car through the squishy jelly forests and parks to somehow make it out in one piece! You can put together your own car with multiple colors and styles and then create your own assault course with bridges and ramps and conveyor belts.  
Museum of Natural History Dinosaurs Price: Free Current version rating: 4/5 from 106 This is great for any age as you get to discover or re-discover the history of dinosaurs that once roamed our planet. This virtual dino tour lets you unearth over 1000 images with info on who discovered the fossil and where, what it looked like and you can post a note and share it with your friends. A great interactive way to learn without actually realizing your learning – perfect for any kid who’s studying dinosaurs right now.
