Mr. MoonLight : Kids Visual Alarm Clock and Nightlight for Sleep Training app review - neat but lacking features

Reviews

Introduction

Mr MoonLight is a child’s alarm clock that uses visual cues to let them know when it is morning and time to get out of bed. This is useful if your child often wakes throughout the night and is able to settle themselves again, but rather than doing so comes to the parents’ room. I downloaded this for my 5 year old, and she has begun to play in her room in the morning if mommy is not yet ready to wake up.

Visual Cues

Mr MoonLight is a child’s alarm clock that uses visual cues for children who have not yet learned how to tell time. There is a moon image on a night screen for sleep time, and a sun on a bright screen for wake time. I love that you can set either a timer or a time of day for wake. This is useful if you are putting your child down for a nap, but they only need to be there for an hour. It is helpful to also have a proper alarm time so that you can set a morning wake without having to do the math for hours and minutes.

Included in this app, is a morning song and a night time song.  One thing that I’d like to see added is the option of choosing your own music. You of course can do this through the ipod function and set the ‘when timer ends stop playing’ option, but it would be nice to be included within the app.

Expensive for Few Features

As mentioned above, Mr MoonLight is lacking a song selection with shut off. It also only has one good night song, and one morning song. My baby likes a specific song, and each baby has a preference. If I had to listen to the selections in app, I would go nuts. I tried to have it on a few nights beside me for my 5 year old, and it was not happening. She usually listens to an audiobook for bed, so being able to select your own playlist would be very beneficial.

It also only has two modes as far as timer and alarm time. You must set these times with each use, so again, it gets pretty annoying. With the builtin alarm clock that I default to on my iPhone, I can program days of the week, play once, and so on. This would be a great addition to this small app.

Along with the one morning song, I would appreciate some different alarm tones. This can either be through a short list, or the option of choosing from the ones already included in the iPhone.

Final Thoughts

I love Mr MoonLight. I would love to see the improvements mentioned above, but for what it is, it does the job and the kids love it. It is after all made for them and not for me!
