This app provides you with a limited selection of carols, which includes some of the most popular classic carols. You won’t find any modern hits here; this is all about the classics. The app has such songs as Oh Holy Night, Silent Night, Oh Little Town of Bethlehem, Oh Christmas Tree, and Deck the Halls.

I like the fact that all the songs are included in the app for free, which other users seem to agree with, but you certainly don’t get very many tunes. You’ll end up going through all the songs in a relatively short period of time.

Enjoying the Music

Using the app is very simple and quick. Upon launching it you are immediately taken to the menu of songs which looks a bit like a dial. Select the song you want and then hit play. The only added features you are given is the ability to turn the repeat on/off, and to stop the song. The sound quality is okay but not fantastic. While the actual sound is crisp and clear I find you have to turn your device up quite loud to hear it well.

For me a big downfall is that the songs are all instrumental; there is no singing. Part of the joy of Christmas carols is that you can sing along. Additionally, in order to switch songs you have to press stop first, select the new song, then press play. It seems like this process could have been streamlined. I figured the app would support background play like most music apps do but that is not the case with this one. If you screen goes to lock or sleep the music also stops.

Final Thoughts

The Christmas Carols app can be a fun way to turn your iPod, iPad, or iPhone into a Christmas music player yet there just isn’t even enough songs here to make the app a great choice. On top of that, I don’t like that the music is strictly instrumental.
