Talk in 3 app review: complete jigsaw puzzles in your native language or use them to learn a second or third

Introduction

This is a charming little game with an educational edge which is designed to help your child learn pattern recognition skills and basic linguistic skills by completing simple jigsaw puzzles in either English, Spanish, or Chinese. This app wonderfully combines form, function, and fun to provide a great learning experience.

The developer has done a great job of keeping things nice and simple with this iPhone and iPad app, and I think this is sure to facilitate the learning process for young children who might otherwise be overwhelmed by flashy animations and elaborate interfaces.

While I do like this app, I’m still undecided as to whether or not the $0.99 price tag is justified, so let’s take a slightly closer look and see if Talk in 3 really stands apart from comparable developments in the App Store.

Funducational Jigsaw Puzzles

When you first up Talk in 3 you’ll be given the option to enter the app either in English, Spanish, or Chinese. You’ll also be greeted by a very cheery piece of piano music which definitely sets the tone wonderfully and even had me perk up in my seat when I first heard it!

From here, you’ll be taken straight into the jigsaw puzzles. The puzzles range from three to five pieces, and feature familiar objects and shapes that children will easily recognize such as a school, telephone, house, and brown bear.

 

Learn Nouns in Spanish and Chinese

After solving each puzzle, the correct noun will appear on the screen, accompanied by a real voice recording of someone speaking the word nice and clearly. Of course, if you choose a foreign language this is a great way of helping your child boost their vocabulary in either Spanish or Chinese.

You’ll also notice that further to solving each puzzle, players will be asked to touch all of the corresponding shapes, objects, or animals on the screen to ensure that they fully comprehend what they’ve just done.

• Basic jigsaw puzzles of three to five pieces featuring familiar objects such as houses, stars, and animals
• Play in English, Spanish, or Chinese to learn nouns from foreign languages
• Touch the corresponding objects on the screen after completing each puzzle to ensure players comprehend fully
• Features a very chirpy original soundtrack with a catchy piano piece that will have you tapping your feet in no time at all

 

Cons      

• There is nothing negative to say about this app

 

Final Words

Any developer who attempts to essentially “gamify” the learning experience for children is one that I can really get behind, and Talk in 3 is a great example of this.

I think the concept could easily be expanded on further in the future, but for now I think this should serve as a fun distraction for young children who can boast to Grandma that they learned new words in Spanish and Chinese!
