Why Bother?

iHome Set is a great companion for your iHome alarm clock. I bought my son an iHome alarm clock with dock because he listens to an audiobook each night, and it is great to be able to hear the story through speakers versus headphones. Docks, frankly, make life easier. Now that he has saved for and purchased an iPod touch, downloading the iHome companion iSleep was a natural progression.

We have been playing with iHome Set for a couple days now, and in comparison to iHome +Sleep, it does do more. I didn’t like having two apps to do essentially the same thing when he had iHome +Sleep and iHome +Radio going at the same time. With the iHome Set he can set a radio station, make sure his alarm is on for the morning, and only has to have one app running.

 

Is It Easy to Use?

iHome Set is definitely easy to use. I have no problem telling my son (who is 10) to set his alarm, get his sleep timer going for his music, and tucking him in. He easily does this on his own, and has been all year since we got him his iHome alarm clock.

I also appreciate that there is both a day light and night light setting. It means that there is a dim for night and bright for day so you can see it to set more easily, and then dim so that you are not kept up by the light. It is not so dark, however, that you cannot read the screen if you want to check the time. My son has the iP21 model, which is a stylized cube. It takes up no more space than the iPod touch laying on his headboard, and makes independence that much easier.

iHome Set iPhone and iPod touch app combines iHome +Sleep and iHome +Radio into one easy-to-use app with many features. My 10 year old son can easily set his alarm, sleep timer, and go off to sleep with the app. I love it when technology helps guide independence. What I do find frustrating, is that when he needs help, I cannot help him with the settings unless I am able to go to his room with his dock and set the app. Every so often this does happen, and being able to adjust the settings without the dock would be a great addition in the future updates.
