Airplane Flight SOS app review: help land the plane
Introduction
What do you do to pass time on those long road trips or flights, or how about when you're sitting in a waiting room for an appointment? This is when many people turn to their mobile app for a casual and fun game. The Airplane Flight SOS app for your iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone certainly fits that bill by providing you with a fun, challenging, and immersive game that will have you trying to make an emergency landing. It’s your job as the pilot to land the craft safely making sure everyone on-board lives: do you think you’re up for the challenge?

Disaster Strikes
The game picks up when disaster strikes and your airplane has suddenly lost use of one of its engines. This is an emergency situation and you're going to need to take over quickly and safely before it crashes to the ground. Although the plane is traveling fast you don't want to feel rushed because you need to concentrate and fly carefully to ensure the best result.
The best aviation tool apps for iPadThis game just recently had an update that resulted in the addition of new features and addressed some bug issues that were plaguing the game. The app is free to play but there are a few in-app purchases available that range in price from $1.99 to $4.99. The app supports GameCenter which is a major pro for many.
Flying the Plane
Launch the app and you can instantly start flying the plane. I have to say one negative that hit me immediately is the really obnoxious, almost arcade-sounding music. I think it’s meant to be high-energy and add to the drama of the situation but instead it just gets on your nerves. There are three planes you can fly but only one is available in the free version.
Best iphone and ipad appsI have to say the plane moves pretty fast and the tilt controls are extremely sensitive; in fact, they are too sensitive. Even the slightest tilt can send your plane careening into an obstacle and explode. Speaking of obstacles there are plenty you need to avoid such as other planes, hazards along the side, and the fact your speed always seems to be picking up. The game increases in difficulty the further you manage to make it. I find the graphics to be just mediocre; nothing too special. The sound effects are almost non-existent.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Easy-to-understand gameplay
- Uses tilt control to steer/fly the plane
- Fast gameplay
- Supports GameCenter
Cons
- The controls are overly sensitive
- Only one plane is available for free
- The graphics and sound effects are mediocre at best
- The game gets boring rather quickly
Final Thoughts
The Airplane Flight SOS app for your iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad has a really cool premise but it just isn’t carried out very well. Gameplay is frustrating due to the over-sensitivity of the controls, the sound effects and graphics are unimpressive, and it’s just not very exciting.
