Introduction

There are a lot of useless apps in the App Store, and I have seen many come by in my days as a reviewer for appPicker, but this one must be one of the most useless. Random Fact of the Day - Dailybrain by Steven Boynes is an iPhone and iPad app that does exactly what it says in the name. It delivers a daily random fact, nothing more, and nothing less. With all that other fact apps in the App Store, why would you get this one? I don’t know, but read further why.

One Fact a Day, and Only One

The one thing about this app that really grinds my gears is the fact that you can’t browse through previous random facts. You are stuck with the fact that you will receive on the day and there is nothing more and nothing less to do. The backgrounds are grey, none of the facts are supported by photos or other fun stuff,  and the delivery of the whole package is simply dull. There are so many much better apps around that will actually give you content in trade off for the many ads they will spit onto your device’s screen.

On a Positive Note

There are a few things the app does well. First of all, you have the sharing options. If you find a fact so mind bogglingly interesting, or you are completely left in awe, you might want to send it to your friends. This can be done via Facebook, Twitter, and email. The downside of this is that you will point more people to this app, meaning it might become successful.

The second good feature of the app is that you can set the time you would like to receive your random fact. I'm not sure why I would want to set it, as you won’t check this app more than once a day, but fair enough, it is an option.

Lastly, the app links through to the developer's source of information about the fact, meaning you can click through to there and see if they have more interesting things to mention that the app does not.

Conclusion

Unless you know the developer personally, I would never ever suggest this app. Every time you open the app and are forced to look at one of the many ads, the developer will receive more money and will probably continue creating ghastly apps like this. I have a few tips for the developer. The first one is to get a graphic designer involved and make the whole app and delivery of the fact more interesting. The second and most important one is that he should make the previous facts available for everyone to browse through. If he doesn’t take these tips into account, he should probably stop making apps. The app is compatible with iPhone and iPad.
