Just because Christmas and the holidays are over doesn't meant the holiday cooking has to stop. The Cooking Games app for your iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone gives you a way to enjoy Christmas cooking no matter what time of year it is. This app has been designed for the kids to use and will have them cooking up the perfect Christmas cake house that they can also decorate.

A Healthy Christmas Cake House

Who would have thought there was a way to bake and decorate a Christmas cake house that is healthy and actually calorie-free? Thanks to this app it’s totally possible. Of course making the house is fun but it also teaches kids about preparing and cooking an item. It encourages their creativity through the decorating; in fact, the app really pushes kids to think outside the box and make a truly unique Christmas cake house.

This app can be enjoyed by young kids because the recipe instructions are just pictures of the ingredients so there is no need to read anything. There is even an educational aspect as kids need to find the match to the picture they are given by looking in the cupboard and finding the items needed in the order in which they appear.

 

Baking Your Cake

Kids will need to look at the side of the screen to find the recipe directions. I find the game controls to be a bit unresponsive at times, which can get frustrating. Additionally, there are an awful lot of steps from start to finish. This is great if you are looking to keep your child busy for a while but younger kids may quickly lose interest in the app. I do wish that instead of the music playing in the background there would be a voiceover to name each of the ingredients. This would give kids even more of an educational experience so that they don’t need to be able to read or guess what each item is.

All in all this is a cute offering but I think there are some definite areas where it could improve in gameplay. I do appreciate the fact that kids are welcome to build as many houses as they want, being as creative as possible each time.

The Cooking Games app for your iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone combines cooking a classic Christmas cake house with a bit of education. I think that this app is cute and fun but it would be great to see a few refinements made.
