History:Maps of World app review: do you know your world maps

Reviews

Introduction

If you're a student who is studying world history or you just have an interest in the topic, the History:Maps of World app is a wonderful way to feed your passion. This app can be used on your iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone and provides you with a rich and beautiful experience that is interactive as it shows you how geographic and geopolitical shifts have changed the maps over the years. The app is also great from a geographical standpoint, again for teachers, students, and those with an interest in geography.

A Wide Collection of Maps

What surprises me most about this app is how many maps there are and just how many times the maps have changed. The app gives you 178 historical world maps, which means you have a whole lot of history to catch up on. To make the app easier to use you can do a keyword search and browse through the maps that have been grouped by era or category. Each map also gives you source information.

Best iphone and ipad apps

There is no age limit for this app as elementary kids, high school, and even college students will find merit in it. The app is ad-supported, which I think it well worth the $1.99 in-app purchase to remove them and see the maps the way they are meant to be viewed.

Loaded With Features

Besides being able to give you an incredible amount of history and knowledge the app is also loaded with user-friendly features to enhance your experience. For instance there are different map backgrounds, you can send a map by email, you can mark maps as favorites, and even print maps. The comparison tool is really cool so you can compare today's map to that of a historical one.

With all this said the app unfortunately suffers from a very low customer rating that actually dropped after its latest update that took place last spring. I have to say this app sounded really exciting to me so I was looking forward to the review but I have had nothing but issues trying to use it. There seems to be some stability problems as the app continuously crashes on me. When the app does work though the maps are wonderful with plenty of details that you can pinch to zoom in on. If the app was just a bit more stable I’d be giving this one top marks as the information is incredibly helpful for students, researchers, teachers, and history/geography buffs.
