Let’s Play Darts Scorekeeper Free HD app review: keeping score while you play darts

Reviews

Introduction

Seemingly more and more darts apps are appearing in the App Store, each trying to outdo the other while still trying to make some money as well. Some of these apps lock most of the features out, such as different scoring, but others give you full access to different gaming rules while locking off the amount of players you can add or other features. Let’s Play Darts Scorekeeper Free HD falls in the latter category. Developed by iPear and compatible with iPad, this app will be your favorite darts buddy, but only when you play with just one friend.

Keeping Score

The app, when you first start to use it, might look a bit confusing. The constant ad that tells you to unlock the full version is taking up most of the screen, while the options to start a new game or add score are very well hidden. For starters, you can simply press the eraser just under the whiteboard to start a new game, but you have to tap it exactly where it is, otherwise simply nothing will happen. The app doesn’t explain this to you at all, and adding your scores to the scoreboard has the exact same problem. You have to touch the dot next to your score precisely to input your score, otherwise nothing will happen. This is a very sloppy design.

Game Modes

Unlike other darts scoring apps, you can actually change the scoring. You can choose from all variants of the 301 game, such as 501, 1001, and many others. The downside is that you can only keep score for two players. To unlock more players, you need to purchase the full app, which will set you back $2.99. Included in that package, you also get sounds for each score, the check-out hints (which are included in other free apps), and all the ads will be gone from the app, making the scorecard full screen. For the two players that are supported, the app actually keeps statistics of what has been thrown, who won the most legs, sets, and matches, and many other cool stats.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Free!
  • Keep stats for the two players
  • Choose from six different game types

Cons

  • The free app constantly shows the ad for the full version
  • The design is very sloppy. It’s not explained how to use the app

Conclusion

A true darts fan will not have to think twice to purchase a darts app, but simply because the design isn’t as good as other scoring apps, I would suggest looking around more. For the less die-hard fans, I think this might be a good free app to have in your pocket, as you can pick from among all kinds of different game types perfect for a quick match over a cold beer. Regrettably the app is only available for iPad, because I’m not sure I will drag my iPad to every bar I go to.
