Dog Whistle Free app review: works by emitting a high frequency tone in a range that a dog does not ordinarily encounter

Reviews

Introduction

Dogs are capable of hearing sounds that are at a much higher frequency than humans can typically hear, and this iPhone and iPad app takes full advantage of this to provide you with a handy tool that you can use to get your buddy’s attention no matter where he runs off to.

I don’t actually have a dog so I can’t really comment on the efficacy of the tones that this app produces. I had hoped to send the neighborhood dogs wild by using this app outside but alas, my prankster side was left disappointed, perhaps because the speaker on my iPhone simply isn’t loud enough.

Either way, this is a completely free app so it can’t hurt to give it a try because you never know; you might have just found exactly what you need to keep your otherwise unruly mutt in check!

Easily Get Your Dog's Attention

Dog Whistle Free works on the premise that doggies can hear sounds at much higher frequencies than humans, and it takes advantage of this by emitting a high-pitched tone in a range that a dog simply isn’t used to hearing.

Of course, the theory is that because your dog isn’t used to hearing such frequencies, it will immediately grab his attention, and hopefully he’ll come running back to you in seconds flat.

Please bear in mind that the average adult human can hear sounds in the range of 12,000-14,000 Hz, so you probably won’t be able to hear all of the sounds that this app can produce.

Tune the Whistle While Your Dog Sleeps

The developer also advises that this app could be used to actually train your dog on basic commands: the example they provide is, “two short bursts could mean stop and one long burst could mean lie down.”

It is recommended that to tune Dog Whistle Free you should slowly adjust the frequency of the tone while your dog is asleep. When his ears begin to prick up, then you’ll know that you’ve found a frequency to which he is receptive.

Final Words

Dog Whistle Free is a very interesting concept for and iPhone and iPad app that I would love to see in action.

As I mentioned in the introduction, I can’t comment on how effective this app is in terms of catching a dog’s attention, but the app itself appears to run very smoothly with a very simple interface layout that you guys should have no trouble at all finding your way around.
