Classic board games often have trouble evolving over time. Some board games however have evolved the rules and have become easier to understand, or have added a completely new style of play. Electronic Arts, the owner of the Hasbro license to create digital version of the Hasbro board games, has understood this well and has created Monopoly Millionaire. This version of the popular board game is currently $4.99 on the App Store, but lucky go-getters have been getting this for free in the last few days!

How It Works

A lot has been changed since the last version of Monopoly. First of all, the goal is no longer to bankrupt your competitors. The goal of the game is to be the first actual millionaire in the game. No longer do you have to patiently wait to bleed your opponents dry. This time the game has sped up a lot as well. You start with a substantial amount of money and the trick is, as with any monopoly game, to buy properties. Now the properties not only allow you to build houses on them, but each of them has a specific skill attached to it. For example, some properties give you access to a free house, or allow you to go to GO directly, and get all the perks that belong to that square. You can now also upgrade your token, which can give you all kinds of millionaire treatment, good or bad.

Gameplay Modes and Options

For the first time, you can now play Monopoly via Wi-Fi against friends. Not only this, but Pass and Play also made its welcome return, meaning you can play together with friends around the table or simply play it on a long car journey.  When playing against the computer, there are three difficulty levels available, and believe me, the lowest one already puts up quite a challenge. Of course the game also supports stat tracking and all other options that you would expect to come with a game of Monopoly.

Conclusion

Monopoly Millionaires is a true game changer. I haven’t seen many board games be as ballsy as Hasbro and Electronic Arts have been with this game. For a board game, the price is quite steep with $4.99, but it’s absolutely worth it. You will be playing this game until the late hours as it is very addictive. The game is very polished and looks great. You don’t need an Internet connection to play. The game is only compatible on iPad, as the game will simply not come to its own on a smaller screen.  The size of the game is quite large, but you will know you will get a quality experience.
