America’s Weird Laws app review: a surprisingly funny app

Introduction

The world is a wonderful place. Every country has its own customs and laws, and some of these are outrageous or funny. The United States of America makes it even better, as each state has its own laws. If you wanted to see the most outrageously funny laws that some of the states come up with, you  used to have to do an in-depth search but now there’s an app that holds all of them for you. I usually have no expectations whatsoever when I review apps of “master developer” Michael Quatch. Usually his apps are terrible, so I was surprised to see he actually managed to develop an app that could make me smile. America’s Weird Laws is compatible with both iPhone and iPad and is available completely free.

How it Works

When you boot up the app, the goodness already comes your way on the first screen. There is no title screen to speak of, just like in the developer’s previous apps: you will see a screen with the name of the state and a ridiculous law. Here you simply press the next button to see a randomly selected new law. None of these laws are actually ordered by state, so by simple browsing backwards or forwards, you will get to see a new funny or weird law every time you tap.

Features and Missing Features

Like with the developer's other apps, there are a few features available for you. You can set your favorite laws, making them quickly accessible by tapping the favorites button. When you do this, you will be able to only see the laws you set as favorite. You can also share all these laws via Facebook (if you are logged in on a device with OS 6.0 or higher), you can email them, and even send them in a text message to your friends. The one option I’m missing here is a search function. I would love to be able to browse all the laws for a specific state, or find out if there are any laws specific about a certain subject.

Conclusion

I have been very harsh in my previous reviews about apps from this developer. There are plenty of reasons for this, as most of his apps are simply out there to make money off of ads, like this one. It feels like the developer actually has done some research this time, making this the actual first app that is worth downloading, as most of the laws are so ridiculous you can’t help but laugh. The app is compatible with iPad and iPhone, and is only 5 MB. If you’re up for a laugh, download this app now!
