Mini Ninjas app review: a great endless running game

Introduction

It’s been a few years now since the endless running genre was first introduced in the App Store. Loads of successful games have been released in this genre, while even more bad rip-offs and less successful games have spawned on all kinds of devices. After such a long time, you would think that the genre has gone stale and not many improvements will be able to make it in the genre at this point.

Developer Square Enix, one of the most successful video game companies in the worl,d has decided to release one of these endless running games on the App Store using one of its most famous western-developed video game franchises.

Mini Ninjas is available for free on both iPad and iPhone.

Gameplay

If you’ve played endless running games before you will know what to expect. The game has the most in common in terms of gameplay with the successful game Jetpac Joyride, while Mini Ninjas has added a few new elements to the equation. For example, your ninja can’t fly, meaning you will have to jump over obstacles by tapping the left side of the screen. Tapping the right side of the screen allows you to use your weapon, with which you can defeat any enemy ninjas on your path. Sometimes you will be able to free another ninja, who you will play as until you get hit. These ninjas have different powers than the main character. One can smash boulders that you otherwise had to jump over, while another one can fly. You can also collect all kinds of ingredients while running, which can be used to craft potions that will help you during your adventure.

 

Graphics and Sound

The graphical style is reminiscent of the previous Mini Ninja games that were released on home consoles. The game looks stunning and is using a cartoony style that fits in perfectly with the mood of the game. Every time you play, a dragon will transport you to a new backdrop for your running adventure, and each of these looks beautiful. The sounds are exactly what you would expect of a ninja game.

Mini Ninjas is definitely the best endless running game available in the App Store at this moment. The graphics are amazing and the gameplay exceeds any other game in this genre. Collecting the ingredients for potions that will power up your ninja is a great idea, while the different characters you can unlock are fun to play with, even though for only brief periods of time. The game is available for both iPad and iPhone, and is perfect for short increments of play. The game is just under 40 MB. This is definitely a game you cannot miss!
