Vito: I have lice! app review: an interactive story book educating children about lice

Reviews

Introduction

With all the books for children in the App Store, it can be hard to find one that will actually educate your children about something relevant. Personally I never had lice when I was a kid, but I know a lot of people who did and apparently it still happens very often. For children, this can be very hard to understand and difficult to deal with, so they need to be properly educated with how you can deal with this very uncomfortable situation.

The best interactive books for iPad

Luckily edebe mobile has released an interactive storybook about this subject called Vito: I have lice!. This story app, compatible with iPad and iPhone, explains in a very fun and lighthearted way how to deal with lice.

Very Short, With Little Text

First of all, let me tell you that this app is completely free, and I really didn’t expect a story of epic proportions, but the story is very thin. It basically tells the story of Vito, who has an itchy head and nothing helps. What is missing here is to explain to kids how to avoid lice in the first place. Anyway, the story is also very short and concise because it is for kids. Vito will tell you the story while you see images of what he’s talking about, and by pulling down the top of the page you get to see the text. The text is very easy and can help children to read. There are only seven or eight pages in the book, so it will be over before you know it.

Interactivity and Graphic Style

Every page of the book is fun to play around with. Scratch Vito’s head and he will start shouting, while loads of other objects make sound and move when you tap them. The graphic style of the story also fits in really well with the target audience, which lies between ages three and six. If your child is over that age, he probably will just think it’s boring and will not be interested in the story at all. There are no little games nor anything to be found in the story, so don’t get your hopes up!

Conclusion

I can recommend this book to all parents with small kids who like to play outside and around other kids. It’s a great way to make your children deal with the fact they might have lice, and how you can spot it easily. The graphic style is a bit childish, but the book is only meant for kids between three and six. The interactivity is limited to some moving objects and some sounds, but all of that is quite fun. The app is compatible with both iPad and iPhone. Finally, a free children’s book with interactivity and a good message!
