The Rainforest Musical Kakamega app review: a musical and learning adventure for kids

Reviews

Introduction

Some apps are really hard to categorize in just one category in the App Store. Some games barely have gameplay, while some apps to be found in the Reference category would be better placed under the News category. The same goes for books, as some of the interactive books would fall better under the education category, and vice versa. The Rainforest Musical Kakamega by developer Siu lui shirley Choi is one of those apps that is hard to place anywhere. This app, developed for iPhone and iPad would not be misplaced under Music or Education, but is also correctly placed in the Books category. The reason is that this book hold a lot of music and carries a message for your kids as well.

What it has to Offer

As mentioned in the introduction, The Rainforest Musical is placed under books, meaning this is a story told by text and speech. Not only does this book have a complete musical score, but it also has a message to pass on to your children. In the book you follow the adventure of two young members of the Kakamega tribe, who find a sick city boy and will try to help him get better by finding a magical flower with healing properties. This is not all, as you could easily categorize this under movies, as each page of the book is fully animated. As with most of the books in the App Store, the first chapter is free, but to unlock other chapters, you will need to pay $1.99. The book holds a total of nine chapters.

Art Style and Sound

The graphical style of the adventure is breathtaking. All the pages look-hand drawn and are fully animated, while the characters are drawn in a cartoon-y style and all move nicely within the story. Where the app really stands out is the musical score. Composed by award-winning musician Shirley Choi, the music accompanies the adventure perfectly and your children will learn a lot about the beauty of the rainforest and its animals simply by watching, reading, and playing around in this book. The book holds 12 original songs by this fantastic composer.
