Sunrizer synth app review: taking the definition of iOS synthesizer to the next level 2021

Reviews

Introduction

This is an incredibly powerful studio recording app which, in the words of the developer, “blurs the boundaries between iOS and hardware synthesizers,” working in perfect unison with any MIDI keyboard or sequencer and giving you absolute freedom of expression on your iPad.

The best iPhone and iPad apps for musicians

Although I’m a musician, I must admit that much of the functionality offered in this music recording app is lost on me. I’ll do the best I can to provide a decent rundown of the features and the efficacy of the app overall so that you guys can figure out if it’s the right option for your needs.

Having said that, I would definitely like to start off this review by making it clear that this is a good app fro music recording, and one that I think is going to totally open up new realms of possibility in the kinds of sounds you can produce from your iPad.

Make the Sun Rize!

Sunrizer synth features a range of oscillators and multi-filters, as well as an arpeggiator, modulation, and a whole host of other crazy effects. Also featured is SuperSaw sound emulation, which is a “layered waveform consisting of multiple saw waves which are detuned to create an extremely full and epic sound.”

As mentioned, you can apply two filters to each voice, and there are more than a dozen different types of filters to choose from.

There is also a very cool function called Morph Group which allows you to continuously change up to 30 different parameters of the same sound using the modulation wheel. I can tell you now that this is a recipe for some pretty wild effects, and you’ll definitely have some fun with this!

Create Microtonal Music

In addition to all of this, you’ll enjoy full support for MIDI mapping and CoreMidi, plus there are virtual MIDI ports for use. Background audio playback is also supported, enabling you to continue listening to your tracks while you switch between different apps.

Microtuning is also supported. Standard Western music utilizes 12 intervals per octave, but this opens the door to microtonal music which uses a range of intervals that will enable you to create some very unusual and non-Western styles of music.
