Radioleague.com app review: all the music you would ever need in one app

Reviews

Introduction

There are a lot of apps that promise free music to everyone; however, there usually is a catch which will make you sign up and pay for a subscription for their service. Luckily for all you music lovers out there, Journal Broadcast Group, Inc has now developed an app that allows you to listen to your favorite music wherever you go. This app, called Radioleague.com, streams music straight from the Internet, namely the radioleague.com website, to your device and this means you will never be without music. The app is developed for both iPad and iPhone, and of course needs to be online to be enjoyed.

What it Offers

After the app connects to the server, you will see the selection screen which shows you around eight different channels of music. This music is served to you in different genres, making it easy to select your preference and listen to exactly what you want. Simply click one of the channels and press play, and the channel will start buffering. While I was listening to the music,  I haven’t heard any ads during my listening time, but I did change channels quite often. The app itself does hold ads, but they’ve never really annoyed me and after all, it’s these ads that make the app free, so they’re only good for the user.

Other Features

The rest of the app is very bare. After having tried out the eight different channels, the only other option here is to check out the twitter account of Radioleague. I would have liked to see a now-playing list, or at least an option where I can see what is coming up next. It’s so annoying if you hear a song and you don’t know who is actually performing it. The one other problem is that there is only a small selection of genres: the rap, blues, jazz, and dance genres are completely missing, which is a huge missed opportunity for the developer. I would suggest the developer to add more channels to broaden the target audience of the app.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Fast streaming
  • No hidden costs or log in needed

Cons

  • You need to be online to use the app
  • A very limited selection of channels

Conclusion

If you’re into rock, country or just modern pop, this app might be perfect for you. If your music taste is different from these genres, it’s better to find another free radio app, simply because the app doesn’t offer other genres than these. That said, the app is easy to use, looks great, and streams really fast. The app is made compatible with both iPad and iPhone. It works both on 3G and WiFi, but always has to be online to be able to listen to music. The app is just under 15 MB.
