Cleartune - Chromatic Tuner app review: quickly and accurately tune your instrument using your device’s integrated microphone-2020

Reviews

Introduction

Whether you’re a violinist, a guitarist, or anything in between, this is the perfect iPhone and iPad chromatic tuner app to help you tune your instrument with the help of your device’s built-in microphone, ensuring perfect pitch every single time.

The best instrument tuners for iPhone

I’ve come across quite a few different chromatic tuner apps in the Music category of the App Store and I have to say that this is almost certainly one of my favorites, and I’m particularly fond of the note wheel display as this makes reading the musical notes so much easier.

The note wheel display, for me at least, allows for slightly more precise tuning rather than just waiting for a light to flash on/off or red/green. This is a great instrument tuner app with a lot to offer musicians, so it definitely receives a strong recommendation from me.

The instrument tuning app runs on devices with iOS 9.0 or later with support of up to iOS 14.0 and it is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. It will need 8.9 MB of free memory space on your mobile device to download and install.

Time to Tune Up

Cleartune - Chromatic Tuner is a fairly standard example of a chromatic tuner app that you can use on your iPhone and iPad to tune your instrument with a great deal of accuracy. This is achieved by either using your device’s integrated microphone or by choosing the pitch pipe or tone generator tool so that you can tune your instrument by ear.

Where this app differs, in my opinion, is the note wheel display which I feel makes tuning your instrument a far quicker and easier task.

There is also an ultra-responsive 25-cent range fine-tuning display so that you can always get your pitch spot on, accurate to within one one-hundredth of a semitone.

Create Your Own Temperaments and Notations

You’ll be pleased to know that you can also choose from a selection of temperaments and notations such as Solfège, or alternatively you might like to create your own custom temperaments and notations for a more personalized approach.

In addition to all of this you’ll find adjustable A4 calibration which can be tuned in 0.1 Hz increments, and note selection can be toggled between automatic and manual. All in all, I think you’re going to find this app to be more than up to the task of getting your musical instrument perfectly in tune.
