Curious George at the Zoo app review: inspire curiosity about animals in your child with the help of Curious George

Reviews

Introduction

Get your child to help out Curious George at the Zoo by waking, cleaning, and feeding the animals on this fun, engaging, and educational iPhone and iPad app designed to enhance your child's learning and development.

Inducted into the 2012 App Store Hall Of Fame, this app has been developed by Houghton Mifflin Hartcourt, one of the world's leading providers of educational materials for preschoolers, ensuring its high quality gaming experience at the very modest cost of 99 cents.

In this game, your child will help Curious George perform activities that will help him or her learn about different animals and regions. Let's take a look at the gameplay.

Animal Kingdom

The first thing you'll notice about Curious George at the Zoo is the menu. A 3D pop-up menu is incorporated into this game to help your child explore the zoo and the Man With The Yellow Hat also provides some guidance to gently help your child navigate through this game.

There are plenty of animal enclosures where your child can visit each animal individually. Wake them up gently by patting, rocking, and talking to them. You will also be able to learn what foods they like and don't like to eat so you know what to feed them. As your children drag, tap, rub, and use other gestures on the iOS device, they will develop greater hand-eye coordination.

Feed the hungry hippos, play with eager elephants, and laugh with the lions!

Photos & Videos

As each task is completed, stickers are awarded to your child, which can be used in the sticker album. This album is a safe place to store all the awards and accolades you've accumulated by working alongside Curious George. Here you can also pick out zoo backgrounds or use your own photos or your child's photos to create a background.

Your child can make zoo pictures using the stickers and backgrounds together. These pictures can then be saved to the iPhone or iPad camera roll so you can print and hang it up on your baby's bedroom walls or even share it as proud parents!

Every region of this game has a unique super game which facilitates learning in core developmental areas in children, such as memory skills, sorting abilities, and reasoning skills. Additional regions are available as in-app purchases.

This game also comes along with many videos, including many movies of each animal in its natural habitat, so your child knows to associate the animated images with what animals look like in real life. This also includes narratives by The Man With The Yellow Hat, who will tell you some interesting facts about the animals.

Curious George at the Zoo is a colorful, engaging, and delightfully educational app for children, particularly pre-schoolers. I would definitely recommend grabbing this one on your iPhone or iPad if you have a little one of your own, or one that you babysit often; it's well worth the $0.99.
