In some cases, there are several apps for just one license. This is also the case with the Smurfs license. There are games about the Smurfs, and a comic app where you can download all kinds of comic strips about these fun little blue creatures. Now, after a long wait, there is finally a Smurfs story book app, simply called The Smurfs Classic Series. This  cartoons app by iStorytime Inc, is a collection of story books about the Smurfs and is compatible with both iPad and iPhone.

What it Offers

Even though this app is a collection of stories, the app itself only comes with one story about Hefty Smurf who turns into a giant smurf. The story can be read to you by the app, with a delightfully British voice, or the story can be read by yourself or your child. A nice addition to this is the fact that you can record your reading and listen to it back afterwards. This can really help and improve the reading of your children and on top of that, it’s really fun! Of course you can also switch the sound on and off, which only affects the sound effects. The story book itself looks great and reminds me of the classic Smurfs cartoons from when I was young. It even has moving objects on each page which helps giving the story that extra dimension.

The graphics of the app are just like I remember from the TV show in the eighties and the narrator's voice fits perfectly with the license of the Smurfs. The app comes with one free story, and there are four others available for purchase with more on their way. You can record and play back from within the app which is a great tool for kids’ pronunciation. This  cartoons app for iPad and iPhone and is just over 35 MB.
