The Wired Bunch 2 app review: the sequel to a popular children’s book

Reviews

Introduction

Since I am now teaching a bunch of nine-year-olds, I’m always on the lookout for nice story books that I can use in my classes. I teach English, so the book must be aimed at very young children, while the actual content should still be relevant for kids that are nearing their teens. On top of that, these story books should not be too expensive and at least have a free version that I can try out to see if it’s relevant for my students.

The best iPad apps for drawing 2021

Having tried The Wired Bunch 2 by Nine 22 Media, LLC, I think I’ve found a series of books that really hits all these criteria with a star! The app is designed for both iPad and iPhone.

What it Offers

First of all, I like the pun this story stands for. The story is based in the Wired West, which is a robot version of the Wild West. Nothing is cooler than robot cowboys (except maybe robot pirates, but the jury is still out on that) and the developer does a really good job running with that fact. Since I have only tried the free version, which consist out of nine pages, I have to say that the developer truly delivered making a fictitious world come alive.

The best iPhone apps for creative kids

If you decide to buy the full version of the book, you will have to pay $3.99. The series is based on a Hanna Barbera cartoon from many years ago.

Other Features

As with most of these children’s books, your child will have the option to read along with the narrator, or read the story themselves. You can also switch the text off and just listen to the narrator as if it was an episode of the cartoon. There are also profiles available for every character in the book, which is a nice addition and delivers some cool background information. A store allows you to purchase any of the other books in the series. There are now five issues available in the App Store. Lastly there are also some sharing features, which is more social advertising than actual fun social networking.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed the Wired West and will definitely start using the app in my classroom. The sound is fantastic, the narrator has a clear voice, even though he is in character (a robot cowboy sounds clunky and yokely, right?). The graphics of the game look like the cartoon from ages ago, and if you watched it back then you might like to read this with your child. The app is made compatible with both iPad and iPhone and the free version has nine pages to test out. The full version will set you back $3.99. The app is 56.3 MB.
