Rise of Kings - Feast of Flames app review: clashing with Clash of Clans?
Introduction
When you are ruling the App Store, you are bound to get copied by a lot of different developers that are trying to knock you off the throne. This has been Clash of Clans’ biggest problem since its release, but so far it has held its place amongst the top five apps in the App Store firmly. The biggest threat for any app like this is that a developer will come along with a similar concept, but a vastly improved formula. The trick is then to grow and adapt and try to keep one step ahead of the competition. Developer Illumesoft Inc. has taken its shot at the throne by improving the current formula of Clash of Clans through adding controllable heroes. This could be a game changer, but does Rise of Kings - Feast of Flames actually stand up against the powerhouse that is Clash of Clans? Rise of Kings is compatible with both iPad and iPhone is less than 152 MB.

Gameplay
The gameplay of Rise of Kings is exactly the same as Clash of Clans. You need to build a base with defenses while also creating an army to use in your attacks. This is all done in your base screen. Before you start gathering an army, you will have to recruit a hero, which is the big difference with the aforementioned game. To attack a base, you simply tap where you want your troops to deploy and they will automatically attack. You can choose where your hero moves during these battles, which adds a small strategic aspect to this.

Graphics and Sound
The graphics are a little bit better than Clash of Clans, seeing that this game came out about two years later. The sound of the game is on par, and offers a ton of different fun effects during building and battling. To answer the question if this app can beat Clash of Clan, I think it can. It still needs a lot of work, as there are numerous spelling errors in the menus and the game itself, and I have seen one or two minor gameplay bugs. The game is free and makes money through in-game purchases.

Pros and Cons
Pros
- Fun to play
- Control your own hero
- Battle against your peers
Cons
- Not very different from Clash of Clans
Conclusion
If you’re already playing Clash of Clans, I can imagine you want to stick with that game as you don’t want to start all over with a very similar game. The only difference is that you can control your hero, which I believe is not enough to warrant losing all your progress in the original. If you haven’t played anything like Clash of Clans, this game might be for you, as the gameplay is fun and engaging. The app is compatible with both iPad and iPhone and is less than 152 MB.
