The Crossword Plus app can be played on your iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone and is meant to give you the ability to play a puzzle even while out and about. It doesn't matter if you just have a few minutes to spare or a whole bunch more, you can launch a puzzle and get started. You're given a number of features and tools plus you can choose from three different levels of difficulty.

A Starters Pack

I see this app as a starter pack, basically. You are given 15 crossword puzzles to work on and solve and again you've got three different levels of difficulty. You will find clues in the puzzle grid and you can even zoom in if you find the puzzle hard to read. Unlike a traditional puzzle you would do in the newspaper, with this app you are given help functions. There is the mark error, solve word, and solve letter functions. Now there is one rather important detail to be aware of and that's the fact the puzzles use British spelling. This may just add another level of difficulty to the puzzle for you.

Because you only get 15 puzzles it feels more like a starter pack. You can purchase more puzzles for anywhere between $0.99 and $7.99. The puzzles come in bundles. The app currently has 3.5 out of five stars from users that find it to be a fairly solid offering but would like to see more features/options added such as being able to go back and look at puzzles that you have solved.

As far as the gameplay experience goes, things are very smooth and user-friendly. It feels and looks just like a traditional crossword puzzle except you have more tools. What I like about this offering is the help functions. I love a good crossword puzzle but it can be so frustrating if you get stuck. This is a great way to help you get over those few words that may have you stumped.

Other cool features in the game include the fact it keeps track of your own statistics. You can see your percentage of puzzles solved and your best time. This is a great way to challenge yourself as you try to out-best your current scores.
