26point2 app review: a multi-purpose tool

Reviews

Introduction

Imagine an app that not only helps the person training for the marathon but can even help out the spectator watching that participant run. Sounds a little far-fetched, right? Well the 26point2 app was created for just that - the marathon runner and the spectator. This app can be used on your iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone and helps to track your training and then helps the spectators to find you during the marathon. The app has actually been designed by someone who runs marathons so there is a really good understanding of what fellow runners need and want in an app.

So Much Involved

This app almost feels a bit scattered as you start to explore the different features and functions

. There is the fact it can track your training, provide you with a training plan, and provide GPS tracking on the course map so you can send your position to others with the app (your family and friends). This app can be used by those running a full or half marathon. As for the training plans there is one half marathon plan and four marathon training plans to work from.

The app is free to use but if you want to unlock all the features and tools you'll need to make an in-app purchase of $0.99. You can also remove the ads for $0.99. The app currently has 3.5 out of five stars from users as it seems some are having issues with it working on their particular iOS version. Because the app hasn’t been updated in a few years this isn’t really a surprise.

The User Experience

As far as features go there is no shortage in this app. As mentioned you are given training plans, a target time calculator, and the fact it has 66 course maps that feature Smart Mile Markers that show up on the map so you know where you should be at each mile. When it comes to event details you will be able to view the name of the event, the start time and date, the distance, and use a countdown to the start of the event. The training plans have some customization options and you can keep records of your training. Personalize the settings such as choosing between km or miles and how you want the date to appear (DMY or MDY).

All in all this is a simple but pretty solid offering that provides plenty of tools for runners to use.
