Interface & Maps

Downloading at an impressive speed, Earthquake 3D comes in a fairly small package of 8.5 MB. Despite its size, this app brings its users an interface that will make them feel like professional seismologists, with eight kinds of Earth Display such as population maps and tectonic plate maps. Solid as well as wire-frame 3D views with a “transparent” Earth are also available.

The gesture-based map allows users to point and drag to position the earth or even spin it around. You can use the regular pinch-to-zoom in and out functions as well, allowing you to look at the planet from plenty of angles and heights.

The app comes with more than four thousand years of Historic Earthquake information which was compiled using data from the USGS, European EMSC, the British Geological Survey, and New Zealand Geonet.

Quake Visuals

On the map, there are plenty of options to choose from when it comes to detailed view of quakes. You can enable or disable various visualization tools including grids, wire, magnitude, angle, rings, and DEX depth visualization.

There is also a built-in sequencer which displays the earthquakes as and when they occurred with the use of animation loops. You can control the speed, decay, as well as the sound of the loops to customize your viewing experience.

Filter your Earthquake views by magnitude, as well as age, using the slider controls. Individual quake-indicating flags will display the magnitude or depth of the Earthquake and tapping on each flag displays further details on each quake individually.
