Kid Weather app review: a beautiful and interactive weather app designed for children

Reviews

Introduction

With so many weather apps hitting the App Store all the time, Kid Weather is a breath of fresh air, if you'll excuse the pun.

Designed by a six-year-old boy with this help of his dad, who is a meteorologist, this app comes with real-time weather conditions, forecasts, science, as well as fun facts about the weather. Your child not only starts to understand the changing of the seasons, but also understand why those changes take place; knowledge that is long forgotten even by many adults.

This app gained a lot of attention since its introduction into the App Store, being featured as the New and Noteworthy app within two weeks and in the What's Hot feature in the second as well as third month.

You can download Kid Weather from the App Store for $1.99 from your pocket, and 32.2 MB from your iPhone or iPad. Let's take a look at its features in detail.

Design & UI

Kid Weather's UI is colorful and beautiful, with an eye-catching display of the weather featuring a kid or animal avatar. You can change the avatar to male or female, and the developers even promise more avatars in future updates. The best part, however, is that the avatar will be wearing clothes suitable to the current conditions and forecasts for the coming few hours.

Weather can be tracked by selecting your hometown or inputting another location to see its current conditions. The text within the app is all fairly easy to understand and very easy to navigate for children, but even little ones who are not yet reading can be guided by their parents in navigating through this app.

Kids' Corner

There is an amazing interactive feature that comes with this app in the form of an icon that says “Wear?” This feature lets you change the weather on your own if it's been boring outside. How about making it snowy in the middle of summer? Or rain in the middle of winter? Change the weather and your avatar will also change his or her clothes to fit the climatic conditions.

Furthermore, this app also contains educational tidbits such as trivia, fun facts, safety tips, and extreme weather records, allowing your child to learn something new each day.

For the mathematically inclined, there is a Fahrenheit to Celsius calculator along with graphing options that allow you to plot certain basic variables of weather conditions over the weeks and months which is an awesome way to introduce your child to STEM graphs.

Final Words

Kid Weather is hands-down my favorite weather app. Not only is it beautifully conceptualized, but it is also well-executed and can serve as a fantastic tools for parents to teach their child a little big about meteorology. I'd definitely recommend grabbing this one on your iPhone or iPad!
