Fish out of Water app review: an old concept re-imagined for iPad
Introduction
Back when the Internet was still young and the games industry was still focused mainly on home consoles and PC gaming, there was this little game called Yeti Sports. Developers Halfbrick Studios, well-known for hits such as Jetpac Joyride and Fruit Ninja, have now done the impossible. Have they actually made a fun game using this concept? Fish out of Water is compatible with both iPad and iPhone and weighs in at just under 30 MB.

Gameplay
Even though the gameplay is extremely similar to the browser game from 10 years ago, the game still offers enough novelty to make it an exciting new addition to your gaming library. You have about six fish to pick from and each of them has different attributes and skills. You have three chances to get your fish out of the water as far as possible by skipping on the waves and flying through the clouds. You can only pick different fish every time, so you will soon have a team of three favorite fish that you will use every time.

Graphics and Sound
The graphics of the game are exactly what you expect from a fantastic studio such as Halfbrick Studios. Everything looks really polished, the fish each have a very distinct personality, and even the rating system has a really fun twist to it. The music and sound of the game is also really well-done and simply does the job making this game even more excellent. All in all, the presentation of the game outdoes all of Halfbrick’s previous games, and it’s no secret why Apple has chosen to make this app the Game of the Week.

Conclusion
Halfbrick Studios has done it again. After playing Jetpac Joyride nonstop for about a month, now I can’t go to sleep at night before I beat my record at Fish out of Water. The graphics and sound of the game are fantastic and the presentation feels finished. I don’t know how they keep doing it, but it seems to me that there are some really good game developers in the studio that know how to make classic gameplay even better on these devices. The game is developed for both iPad and iPhone and is just under the 30 MB mark.
