Triathlon Mag TOUR DE FRANCE Guide app review: a paid yearly magazine focused on Australian riders

Reviews

Introduction

The Australian publishing house Blitz Publications also has a magazine they publish called Triathlon mag, a niche magazine focusing on the difficult sport of Triathlon. They release a yearly magazine called Triathlon Mag TOUR DE FRANCE Guide and you can download this on iPad only via the app that is just under 12 MB. The app will be bigger when you download any of the issues from this year or years past.

The best magazine apps for iPad

Some magazines are known well for releasing special issues throughout the year. There are always reasons why these issues do better than others, or appeal to a completely different public, which is perfect for a niche magazine to branch out to another audience. The best example for this is of course the swimsuit specials of Sports Illustrated, as this will always sell a lot more issues to the male population, even when not interested in sports.

What it Offers

At the moment there are three issues available of the special issue based around the Tour de France. The downside of this app is instantly noticeable when booting up the app as none of the issues are available for free or even to preview. If you want to buy an issue, you will have to do this blindly. This is a huge downside, as each of the three issues costs $7.99, and is not something you would normally pay without thinking. When you do part with the money you will get a lot of content which, if you’re a cycling fan, you will love!

What Can I Expect

Apart from the content that people who buy this issue in the normal shop will get, there is tons of exclusive content that is specifically designed for the iPad version of the issues. These features include Race previews, stage profiles, riders to watch, full race team profiles, rider videos, access to the Twitter feeds of the riders, exclusive image galleries, full live updated statistics and links to the websites of the teams. All in all, this exceeds a mere magazine and comes closer to a traditional app, which is strange why it’s not in the App Store under the Sports category.

Conclusion

As far as News Stand apps go, this must be the very best one on the App Store. Even though you can’t test an issue of these special edition magazines, they offer so much exclusive iPad content that you can almost call this a full sports app. The issues are quite expensive though, going for $7.99 per issue. Of this special issue there is only one a year, every time the Tour de France is being held. The app is developed for iPad only.
