Aart app review: an interesting puzzle game with a lot of trial and error

Reviews

Introduction

Aart is, in theory, very simple to play, but has so much depth to it that after a few levels you will be completely stuck. The game is compatible with both iPad and iPhone and weighs just in at over 10 MB.

Gameplay

The gameplay is really easy to explain, though hard to grasp. You simply draw a line between two balls, making sure the projective that follows the trajectory you drew. The difficulty comes in when you have to hit multiple balls in one level, while avoiding multiple obstacles. Sure, this sounds easy, but the balls are placed in such a way that you will have to bounce of the borders if you want to complete the level. You can also give the line a swerve, meaning that the projectile will not move in a straight line but moves around in the line you drew, making the chance to hit obstacles, good or bad, higher. You move on to the next level after completing one.

Graphics and Sound

As you might expect from a game that is all about being zen, Aart offers a really relaxing soundtrack and some very smooth background noises. The graphics of the game are equally minimalist, and don’t offer much more than the different colors of the balls and a grey background color. This actually works quite well for this game, and makes the game easier to play, as well as quite accessible. The initial levels of the game are super easy, but the difficulty level of the game jumps up really quickly, making any level after the tenth level more a case of luck than anything else.

Conclusion

I really liked playing around with this app, even though I find it hard to call it a game. This looks more like an art project than a well-thought-out gameplay experience. The graphics and the sound fit quite well with this assumption too, as they are very relaxing and calming. The game is quite addictive, but it gets so hard so quickly that I doubt anyone will ever finish this game. The game is compatible with both iPad and iPhone and is just over 10 MB.
