Pool 9 - Ball app review: a simple but fun free pool game
Introduction
The app today is called Pool 9 - Ball and is developed by Byterun, a developer that specializes in board games. The app is compatible with both iPad and iPhone and weighs in at just over 16 MB.

Gameplay
If you never have played 9 - ball, let me explain the rules. You need to play the black ball (number 9) into the pocket, but only if you have pocketed all the other balls before. You need to first pocket the lowest number and work your way up until you can finally pocket the 9 - ball. This is easier said than done, as there is always an opponent to make your life miserable. You can play this game with one player against the computer, or together with a friend in two-player mode. The latter mode works in pass and play only and there is no network play. The biggest downside of the gameplay is that the balls have no numbers on them, so you’ll never see what the next ball is to hit, unless you know the colors responding to the numbers.

Graphics and Sound
The graphics of the game are very basic. You basically see the table from the top and you will never let go of this view, not even after you hit the ball. There are a lot of different buttons on the screen, making this game quite confusing and of course the screen smaller. The balls look a bit 3D, but still, the fact I can’t see the numbers makes this game so hard to play. The sound is relatively good compared to this, and it feels and sounds pretty realistic.

Pros and Cons
Pros
- A decent 9 - ball simulator
- Play alone or with a friend
Cons
- No different camera views
- No online multiplayer
Conclusion
As far as pool games go, I‘m sure that there are better games available on the App Store. This doesn’t take away that if you are into 9 - ball that you should try and play this game, as it might as well be the best one for this particular game mode. In the future I will try more pool games, as I did have a lot of fun playing this game, even if it doesn’t look that good. The app is compatible with both iPad and iPhone and is just over 16 MB.
