mydlink+ app review: a powerful multi-camera monitoring system

Reviews

Introduction

If you have even the slightest concern regarding the security of your home or place of business then you might want to check out this very nifty iPad app that enables you to view up to four cameras simultaneously on one display.

The best iPhone apps for task management

I absolutely love the idea behind this app, although the response from users on the iTunes description page has been less than overwhelming so I do wonder about the consistency of its performance, over the long haul and in terms of compatibility with various dlink camera models.

I would recommend looking at the compatible models list in the Pros & Cons section of this review, and if you’re in doubt then consider looking up some user reviews specific to your model. Either way, let’s dig in to exactly what this app is capable of!

Watch Four Cameras Simultaneously

mydlink+ is a very clever app that enables you to watch up to four cameras at a time, all from the comfort and convenience of your iPad.

You can at any time specify a focus camera that will then begin streaming in real time, while any other cameras you have connected to the app will simply send snapshots. These views can be rotated whenever you desire so.

Enjoy Motion and Audio Detection

If you spot something rather untoward on one of your cameras then with just a tap or two you can save screen captures directly to your Camera Roll or Photo Stream. This is perfect for catching a perpetrator in the act!

In addition to motion and sound detection, which can be toggled on or off as and when you need them, users of the DCS-942L camera will also benefit from support for SD Card playback and two-way audio support

Cons

  • There appears to be an issue with people not receiving Push notifications, with one user remarking: “I recently purchased a D-Link camera, and I was really wanting to make use of the "push notifications" the box claimed. I installed everything, and yet neither the push notifications nor the email notifications worked.
  • Sure the image looked good, but to claim to do something that it clearly doesn't do, is annoying. On top of my own frustration, I began researching online originally to see if I missed something, but I quickly discovered that many people had the same problems, and that D-Link had even stopped supporting the notifications for a time. Now if you have the right model it supposedly works, but I'm done with this brand.”

Final Words

mydlink+ seems a little hit and miss, so I would recommend using some due diligence before downloading this iPad app.
