Kim Om Nom app review: a game which might get the creators assassinated

Reviews

Introduction

Developer Aexol, probably not based in North Korea, has developed the game Kim Om Nom, which makes fun of the appetite of everyone’s favorite communist leader. This game is compatible with both iPad and iPhone and weighs in at only just under the 15 MB mark.

There have been a lot of games about different communist leaders in the past, but it’s weird that there haven’t been a lot of video games parodying the one and only dictator of this time, namely, Kim Jong Un. He’s such an easy target to pick on; as well, he comes up with crazy rules, has a funny haircut, and he apparently has some very strange hobbies as well.

I wonder how long it takes before the government of North Korea will take before this game is banned from the App Store.

Gameplay

The gameplay is as easy as you would expect from a game that is just under 15 MB. On the top of the screen you will see a line carrying all kinds of food parcels. These are for the children, but at the end of the line is the huge face of Kim Jung Un, threatening to eat all the parcels that will reach his mouth. When this happens, or when any of the parcels hit the floor, it’s game over. There are children running on the floor and your goal is to tap the food parcels at the exact right time to drop them in the hands of the children. Each package dropped correctly will get you a point.

Graphics and Sound

The graphics of the game are very simplistic, but very clear and larger than life. The threatening face of Kim Jong Un trying to eat all the food is always there are and forces you to try better next time. The visuals in the game are therefore pretty good. The sound, on the other side, needs some work. I would have hoped to have some nice fitting music with this game but that didn't happen. I would have loved to hear Kim Jong Un shout different things during the game as well, but this is also missing.

Conclusion

I think for a game based on a current member of state in one of the most closed countries in the world, the developers came out and did a very daring thing. The game itself is also quite fun to play, and it looks pretty good, though the sound is severely lacking. I would really recommend this game for people wanting a quick gaming fix with not too difficult gameplay, and who like to play games with no sound on. The game is compatible with both iPad and iPhone and is just under 15 MB.
