A Secret Sydney app review: an interactive story book that will take you on an adventure
Introduction
There are a ton of different interactive story books on the App Store, and most of them are developed specifically for children. Most of these have some lesson to be learned or have some hidden moral in them, but others are just simply for fun. None of the books are actually about exploring our own world which is a bit of a letdown. Luckily for the explorer among us, there now is a story book that fulfills our wish to go on an adventure and learn about an existing place. Matthew Green has developed a beautiful interactive story book about Australia’s biggest city, Sydney. Not only does this offer a look into this amazing city, but it will teach your children different things on the way. The app iss just under 60 MB.

What it Offers
From within the app you can simply tap on any destination in Sydney and choose from about 20 different locations. From here you will be transported to that destination to learn about it. On every location there is a wisdom, a poem, or a story hidden, and most of the images are interactive too. Don’t forget to tap on a fairy if you want to learn more about the secrets that Sydney has to hide. On the way you will meet all kinds of interesting and diverse characters, each with its wn interesting story. The book also offers all kinds of different learning opportunities.

Graphics and Sound
The graphics have a little bit of a marmite effect. (or should I say Veggimite?) You either love them or you hate them. I personally like the hand-drawn style of the app, but sometimes it makes it look like it’s a bit chaotic and not very polished. This especially shows with the moving and interactive objects. The sound of the app is fantastic and perfect for your kids to read along with. The voice-over is fantastic and very clear, and there is no audio loss whatsoever on the compression used by the talented developers. One more tip: follow the fairies.

- Great sounds and voice talent
- Tons of learning moments and interactivity
Cons
- I have nothing bad to say about this app
Conclusion
This app is perfect for the adventurous children and adults that exist in this world. The app isn’t trying to be patronizing in any way and really gives you the freedom to try and play around with the app in any way you want. The graphical style is nice for some, while others might not like it. The sound is amazing and it’s great to see that the app still remains to be quite small, weighing in at just under the 60 MB. The app is compatible with iPad only.
