Fisher-Price Imaginext™ Dinosaurs app review: fun for your little paleontologist

Reviews

Introduction

Fisher-Price Imaginext™ Dinosaurs is an iPad and iPhone game that works great on either device. It has three learning sections: skeleton, battle dinosaur, and movies. None of these require an Internet connection, so you can relax when your child starts playing the movies while out and about. Whether your child is already fascinated by dinosaurs, or you think they’ll enjoy a new topic, this app will engage your child for hours!

Fisher-Price Brings Toys to Screen

Fisher-Price Imaginext™ Dinosaurs is a toy brought to the idevices. Imaginext toys were a line Fisher-Price developed for kids three and older, to continue having toddlers play with their toys. Previously many of their toys were marketed to very young babies and toddlers up to around two years of age, but the new line opened that up. Imaginext toys have been around since 2002, starting with the medieval and city venues. In 2005, after other lines were introduced, the dinosaurs joined the lineup. A two foot walking, roaring dinosaur definitely caught my son’s attention! At almost three, he couldn’t stop talking about it, and when he got it for Christmas that year he was so excited! So, when I saw the app, I had to download it and see what Fisher-Price had created. Was it game like so many others? Was it educational?

The answer is that it’s both. Under the skeleton menu, children learn about nine dinosaurs, listening to their roar, learning how they may have lived, how they interact with their Imaginext partner and their armor, and finally what their skeleton looked like and how it worked. That’s a lot of information!

Under the battle dinosaur menu, is a little game where you have to help the dinosaur get through a Pac-Man-like maze, gathering gems and avoiding the T-rex.

Under the movies section, your child can watch movies about the dinosaurs, learning as they watch, but also having advertising. The toys are after all for sale, so your kid will likely ask for one.

Disguised Advertising

Fisher-Price Imaginext™ Dinosaurs, while full of educational information, is also cleverly disguised advertising. After all, it is based on a product, and the dinosaurs look like the toys in the store. That being said, my daughter hasn’t once asked for the toys, so not all kids will.

Final Thoughts

Fisher-Price Imaginext™ Dinosaurs is an iPad and iPhone game that works great on either device. It has three learning sections: skeleton, battle dinosaur, and movies. It has great educational paleontologist in training information, but does have disguised advertising in that it depicts the dinosaurs as the toys rather than in a more lifelike manner. Overall, this app has been on my phone for two years and my kids still enjoy it. I would recommend it to anyone whose child has an interest in dinosaurs.
