Color Book: Monster High Edition app review: fun coloring for older kids

Reviews

Introduction

Color Book: Monster High Edition (Unofficial Free Version App) is an iPad coloring book that allows your child to color their favorite Monster High characters. My six-year-old loves these dolls right now, so when I saw this I knew she’d have a blast!

Digital Coloring Book for Older Kids

Color Book: Monster High Edition (Unofficial Free Version App) is a collection of 36 pictures. They are divided into two coloring books with one having mostly younger characters, and the other having more of the older characters. They both have a combination though.

The tools available are the typical pencil size in the shape of a sharpener, an eraser to erase part of your work, an envelope to share your work, and an X to erase the whole page. The pencil crayons are a nice touch for older kids.

Quirks

Color Book: Monster High Edition (Unofficial Free Version App) is a great app with lots of detailed coloring pages. What’s the issue? You cannot zoom in! There are lots of tiny spots that are easier for tiny fingers to get to, but still difficult. The smaller pencil point does help this, but it doesn’t fix it completely.

The menu is a little awkward as well. When you first enter, you have to select that you want to start coloring. Then you select your coloring book. It would make more sense to just go to the images, or start at the coloring book. It took my six-year-old a bit to figure this out, but she did. She is also a beginning reader, so older Monster High fans could likely navigate this more easily.

Once in the coloring books, there are several pages to choose from, with six coloring pages on each. This was not a problem as the arrows are obvious. What was interesting to me was that while they at first seem to be sorted, there are also characters that seem random in each of the books.

Final Thoughts

Color Book: Monster High Edition (Unofficial Free Version App) is a fun iPad app for coloring that allows older kids to enjoy coloring their favorite Monster High characters. This show has really taken off, and I love that older kids are starting to color again! It had been difficult to find age-appropriate coloring pages for the kids in my after school program, but thanks to shows like Monster High and Ever After High, I have been able to find coloring pages that are a little more interesting to my older students. I love that there is an app to take with us when traveling to supplement our coloring books. There are some places that it is inconvenient to bring a pencil case and coloring book, while I always try, and this app fills that niche for the six-to-10 age range.
