GoBabL app review: connect with social media in your locality

Reviews

Introduction

In the wave of new social media apps available on the iPhone and iPad, you'll find that GoBabL app stands out from its competitors as it brings a fresh twist on regular social media networks.

With the aim of bringing together people within the same locality, the developers of this app have eliminated the need for subscribers, followers, or friends. They accomplish this by connecting all the Twitter and Instagram profiles that are available within a one- to five-mile radius.

You can download GoBabL app on your iOS device by finding it in the Entertainment section of the App Store. It can be downloaded for free and only takes up 3.6 MB of space.

Let's take a look at its features.

The Set-Up

GoBabLapp is a shiny new app which was only released into the App Store under a month ago. When you launch it, you will be prompted to sign up using a web form, but you also have the option of signing up using your Twitter or Instagram accounts.

I'm sure many readers of this review will be wary of making their Twitter or Instagram accounts visible to people residing within a short distance. I chose the sign-up form, which only took a few seconds to fill out. Fields required were my desired user name, email address, and an account password.

Once in, you'll be taken to the default screen, which is the Town Hall. Here you have two tabs, one for Twitter and the other for Instagram, where the feeds of users within the default one-mile radius will be shown in chronological order.

Connecting With Your Community

Users can easily scroll through these posts to see what people are saying in their area, yet there is no way to connect with these people such as being able to view their profiles or like their posts. I think this is probably for the best considering privacy may be highly compromised if users were allowed Instagram and Twitter access from a third-party app. However, if you have signed up using these social media networks, there may be a chance you will be able to connect with them.

Thanks to this novel concept, this app definitely manages to stand out, and might even be the next mutation in the evolution of social media. Rather than sending out friend requests or trying to get others to like your posts, you can spend time categorically understanding your locality based on your business, personal, or other interests. This can be expedited using the search by category feature.

GoBabL app utilizes your iOS device's GPS capabilities, combined with already existing social media, and distills it to a more understandable and relateable form so users can get the most out of these tools.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Integrates your iOS device's GPS with already-existing social media networks, namely Twitter and Instagram
  • Enables users to see Twitter and Instagram feeds of users within a five-mile radius without having to befriend, follow, or subscribe to their profiles
  • Can serve as a fantastic travel app, showing you what the locals are talking about

Cons

  • I could see users getting upset over having their Instagram and Twitter feeds broadcast through this app, however, there are a number of privacy settings that can be utilized to circumvent these issues

Final Words

We all know that social media networks tend to fragment people and communities, even make them feel alone. GoBabL is the natural next step for social media networks as it help users feel like they're part of their community rather than making them even more alienated from real life. Stay connected to your community, learn about locals, and make friends in real life from the convenience of your iPhone or iPad.
