GV Mobile + 3 app review: for Google Voice

Reviews

Introduction

If you use Google Voice often then you might like to consider checking out GV Mobile + 3 for Google Voice on your iPhone and iPad for a streamlined way of managing all of your accounts within a single convenient interface.

The best iPhone apps for emoji

I really had high hopes for this app when I first started using it because everything is beautifully presented and you can really see that the developer has put a great deal of time and effort into its overall production.

The unfortunate thing about GV Mobile + 3 seems to be its unreliability, so if you’re considering downloading it then I would urge you to look at the Pros & Cons section below because you might find it to be somewhat of a deal breaker.

Stay Tuned for Improvements

I can easily see the difference between an app that has been developed clumsily and haphazardly, and an app that has clearly been put together with a lot of love and care but may have fallen by the wayside for one reason or another.

The best iPad apps for phone calls

GV Mobile + 3 for Google Voice definitely falls into the latter category, running successfully and satisfying many users since 2009 but appearing to have become increasingly temperamental in recent years.

The Jury is Still Out

The worst thing about it is that the issues seem be largely due to Google’s own lack of maintenance on the actual Google Voice service, so the developers behind GV Mobile + 3 for Google Voice may have to wait for Google to fix things at their end.

Best iphone and ipad apps

If I’m completely honest, I’m a little undecided about this app; I haven’t experienced too many major deal breaker-type issues, but I can see that some long-time users are very unhappy. I’ll have to defer judgment to you guys on this one!

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Enjoy free calls and text messages to any phone number within the US and Canada
  • Running successfully with happy users since 2009
  • Enjoy full management of your Google Voice account from within the app
  • Set up multiple Google Voice accounts within one single interface
  • Receive Push notifications whenever a call or text message comes through
  • Enjoy direct access to your voicemails

Cons

  • There are some definite flaws in this app, starting with a potential issue surrounding the on-device caching of content: “This app is *so* much better than the official Google Voice app. Notifications are kinda screwy and recently MIA, but I'm having that problem with Google's app too... which I had to return to using because for some reason, GVMobile+ ballooned in size on my iPhone 5.
  • The general trend appears to be that this app is nicely designed but is somewhat unreliable: “Sadly, although this developer obviously has put a lot of great work into the interface of this app, it simply doesn't work reliably. I am rarely notified of voice mail messages that are left; even after I open the app and refresh it I often still don't see messages that have been left, and that are visible in the Google webapp and iPhone app.”

Final Words

The jury is out on GV Mobile + 3 for Google Voice for iPhone and iPad; if Google can pick up the slack and improve the Google Voice service then I can see this app being something very special, but otherwise I think another video chat client altogether would be preferable.
