Wifi Hot Spot is the kind of iPhone and iPad app that promises a lot but unfortunately doesn’t do a great deal to deliver on those promises, so if you need a reliable source of Wi-Fi hotspot locations then I’m afraid you might want to look elsewhere.

It’s a real shame to see such a nicely presented travel utility fall by the wayside because of a lack of, well, something: I would say a combination of a lack of attention to detail and a generally sloppy approach to its overall development.

Where Wifi Hot Spot really falls short is in its overall reliability; it is subject to frequent crashing, often upon startup, and based on what I’ve seen from user feedback on the iTunes description page the customer support seems to be more or less non-existent.

What really broke the deal for me was the complaint that you can see in its full glory below, which says that “States are even misspelled.” This really says a lot about the overall attitude of the developer behind this travel app, and I think it says everything that needs to be said, frankly!

• Furthermore: “States are even misspelled. I want my money back. This app is a total waste.”

Wifi Hot Spot has a lot of potential, and a few simple improvements would make it a must-have addition to the iOS device of every traveler, but with so many far superior Wi-Fi hotspot locator apps available I really must advise against choosing this one.
