A Mars Bike Space Race app review

Introduction

Some apps are just ready to be ridiculed just because their name is so weird that it can’t be taken seriously. This is also the case with Mountain Wizard Games’ A Mars Bike Space Race Extreme Car Racing Games, compatible with both iPad and iPhone. The game has such an outrageous name that I had to cut it down simply to fit it into the title. What do you expect from this game after seeing the name? Well, I simply expected a very bad F Zero clone, and I wasn’t too far off. This game offers speed, weapons, and opponents, but nothing like the action that is being delivered in the Nintendo Classic. The app weighs in at just over 70 MB.

Gameplay

The game is easily played by using the tilt mechanics on your device. You will need to make sure you don’t move your device too much, which is the reason why I don’t like these kinds of control methods, but for people who have a steady hand this game might be fun to play. There is no option to have a control stick on the screen, which is a letdown. You have to accelerate by yourself, and you also have to fire your cannon in case you want to blow up some enemies. You basically have two lives during a race, and as soon as you’ve hit two opponents it’s automatically game over. You can, however, start where you died by spending coins or by watching a video, which is just one of the many different places where ads pop up.

Graphics and Sound

The graphics of the game actually look quite good, though it never comes close to the better racing games that you can find in the App Store. The view is from top down and there is no way to change the perspective. Too bad, as I would have loved to see this game from a first-person perspective. The sound of the game is also a bit lackluster and the music will get on your nerves quite quickly. All-in-all this game is relatively fun for a few minutes, but the lack of quality is showing way too quickly.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a great racing game, you should not stop and should continue looking, as this game is simply not doing it for me. It was fun for a few minutes, but the constant ads, the lack of control scheme, and the lackluster presentation made it just too boring for me. There are tons of other fun racing games out there that actually deliver better on all fronts, though there isn’t a good fast one yet. The app is designed for both iPad and iPhone, though I would play it on the former. The app is just over 70 MB.
