Global Cuisine app review: experience a world of food

Reviews

Introduction

When it comes to cooking sometimes it's hard to think outside the box and experiment with new cuisines and cultures. The Global Cuisine app for your iPad has been created to help you experiment with food and really experience all the different cuisines the world has to offer. The app features more than 150 different dishes from a variety of cultures so you can get to know the ingredients, flavors, and pairings they like. What's really fun is the user interface that is actually an interactive 3D globe that you can move around and manipulate.

Move Around the Globe

In the Global Cuisine app you will literally be moving around the globe since it is an interactive 3D model that allows you to zoom in on, rotate, and spin. As you start to zoom in you'll see more and more content available. The idea is that you are getting those extra details by taking a closer look. To top it off there is a 3D moon that is orbiting around your interactive globe. As mentioned there are more than 150 dishes to learn about and they represent a large variety of cultures and cuisines. There's a good chance many of them will be all new for you.

This app was released two years ago and still hasn't had any updates. There is no customer rating but you will find comments which are at completely opposite ends of the spectrum. While some users love the graphics and the content others have complained the recipes are nowhere to be found. It seems as though it’s not exactly recipes rather descriptions of these dishes.

Features of the App

So what should you expect to find in the Global Cuisine app? You're given very simple navigational controls so you can easily work your way around the globe. The images are all HD and the globe itself is meant to look very realistic. Use the app in both portrait and landscape mode, and it really can be used by any age group. You won't need to have an Internet connection to explore the content and there are links to Wikipedia so you can learn even more about these cuisines and cultures. This is a chance to actually learn about where these cuisines originated, when, and how they have evolved.

Final Thoughts

The Global Cuisine app for your iPad is a way to learn about different cultures and cuisines so that you can start to sample new things. I love the idea of it but I think it needs a bit more polishing and more beefing up as far as content goes.
