Hindi Language Guide & Audio - World Nomads is the perfect companion on your iPhone or iPad for when you travel to India.

The best iPad apps for learning Math

What we have here is a Hindi Language Guide which will introduce you to the basic phrases required to help you communicate with speakers of Hindi. Phrases include everything from Introductions to Travel Safety and are presented in an easily understandable and reproducible way.

You can find this app located in the Travel section of the App Store, and it can be downloaded onto your iOS device completely free of charge.

Let's take a look at the features of this app.

Hindi Made Easy

The main interface of Hindi Language Guide & Audio - World Nomads is really simple yet very useful, as it contains just the right amount of information necessary to communicate without having to spend years mastering grammatical and other concepts.

Best iphone and ipad apps

You'll find the familiar and easy-to-navigate menu at the bottom of the screen with four icons for the four main sections within this app. These include Phrases, Lesson, Q&A, and About.  The latter section explains information about the developers, WorldNomads.com, and includes the option to receive travel insurance quotations. Their travel insurance services come highly recommended by Lonely Planet and are worth checking out.

Enjoy a Unique Audio Lesson

The main section of this app which you're going to find yourself using a lot on your travels is the Phrases section. This is divided into various categories including Introductions, Directions & Transport, Places to stay, Travel Safety, Dates, and Numbers One to Ten.

When you tap on any of these sections, you'll see commonly used phrases in English, the English transliteration underneath, and the phrase written in Hindi. If you tap on any of these phrases, you will hear a professionally-recorded audio file that will recite the phrase in Hindi. You will also find Food & Drink, Directions, Days & Months, and More Numbers, but these sections do not come with audio.

The Lesson section includes an audio lesson in Hindi which lasts just under 14 minutes, while the Q&A consists of a social network formed by the users of this app. The questions asked are by other travelers and answered by other travelers or residents of the country.

As someone whose second language is Hindi, I thought the listings were very useful and translations were fairly accurate. Since the grammar is so different, some of the translations were a little off, but they definitely got the basic gist across, and any Hindi speaker would be able to understand these phrases and respond appropriately.
