Tracing Practice Can Be Fun

Tracing is the age-old technique for learning to print. Teachers would instruct students how to trace the letters, and the students were to emulate, however, how many of them actually did? With Little Writer, your child must follow the path set out on by the crab to eat the pineapples, or the tractor to collect the hay bales. If they don't then they have to try again.

The best spelling apps for the iPhone and iPad

Even though tracing exactly can be difficult for younger children, this app is quite forgiving. They are given a large letter with wide strokes so that their little fingers can fit in the space. This is great because it means that they don't have to trace a million times like some other apps.

Word Tracing

Little Writers also has a word writing area. Your child can trace the letters of a short word, and then see their own writing on the bottom of the picture. This is great because it's not just a picture with a typed word, but they get to see that they really did write a word!

I also love that the app has shapes. Kids often attempt to draw a square, but it turns into a sloppy pentagon, or even worse! By tracing shapes, they can feel the correct motion, and it becomes a muscle memory.

Final Thoughts

Little Writer - The Tracing App for Kids is a great learn to print iPad and iPhone app. It is flexible for new printers, and has an interactive trace the path method rather than simple showing the motion with a line. Take the crap to the pineapples, or the tractor through the hay bales to write a letter. Plus your child gets to write words, and see their own handwriting in the word screen. This was fun for my kids. Overall, I would definitely suggest this app as it is free, flexible, and has many learning modes for your preschool to Kindergarten child.
