Introduction

Big on concept but severely lacking in execution, BOLTS OF LIGHTNING -- Powerful Storms and Stabs of Light from the Sky for iPhone and iPad provides a collection of storm photographs but unfortunately the functionality stops about there.

I have a feeling there isn’t going to be much to say about this app, mainly because there is basically one feature, which is to display images of big thunderstorms.

I really like the concept but as we’re about to see below, there is basically no functionality besides the displayed images so you won’t be able to use them outside of the app.

This is a very simple app which provides a collection of fairly high-quality photos of massive thunderstorms.

The best iPad apps for storm alerts

The photos themselves are very impressive, as can be seen from the screenshots included in this review, but the developer has provided no further functionality or features that would enable you to use the images outside of the interface.

BOLTS OF LIGHTNING -- Powerful Storms and Stabs of Light from the Sky doesn’t provide you with options for sharing, printing, or otherwise exporting the photos so all you can really do is look at them from within the app.

Furthermore, it seems as if the developer support for BOLTS OF LIGHTNING is practically non-existent, so I would strongly urge you to take a look at the Pros & Cons section below for more information on where this app falls short.

• The concept behind this app is good, but the developer definitely seems to have missed out some rather basic (and vital) features: “Was hoping to use one of these as a screensaver on my iPod, but there's no menu option to do that. All you get are the photos, period. Why not have the option for the user to save these photos? What sense does it make just to have them, I could have downloaded photos from the internet to use.”
• “There is no support for this app. Great if you like a black screen with a small blink to the side occasionally.”

BOLTS OF LIGHTNING -- Powerful Storms and Stabs of Light from the Sky could be a very nice iPhone and iPad app if the developer could just add a few basic features, but in its current form I’m afraid I’ll have to advise you guys against downloading it onto your iOS devices.
