Anonymous Web Browser app review: with Blackout and Capture

Reviews

Introduction

Anonymous Web Browser with Blackout and Capture + is a great idea for an iPhone and iPad app but it  appears as if the developer has left things a little rusty around the edges, so to speak, so check it out but you might want to read this review before making your final decision to download it.

The best VPN apps or iPad

If you’re the kind of person who likes to look at, shall we say, slightly more questionable content when you’re out and about, or you simply want to keep your browsing habits private, then this might be the private browser iPhone and iPad app for you.

Surf Anonymously

What we have here is a simple utility that you can use to surf the Internet with full anonymity thanks largely to an absence of browser history, cookies, or cache.

The best browsers for iPad

This private browsing app doesn’t include automatic completion of websites you’ve previously visited, so the URLs won’t show up when you type websites into the address bar. The address bar is also where you can tap to activate the Blackout feature which, quite simply, turns the majority of the screen pitch black.

Save Webpage Screenshots

Anonymous Web Browser with Blackout and Capture + also allows you to capture screenshots of pages from directly within the app and save them straight to your Camera Roll, and you can set the screen captures as the Lock or Home screen on your iOS device.

The best VPN apps for the iPhone

The main problem with this private browsing app, besides the rather lazily developed interface, is that a Bing advertisement loads whenever you start it up; this uses data and also slows down the user-experience in general which I personally find to be a bit of a pain in the butt.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Surf the Internet with full anonymity with no browser history, cookies, or cache
  • Auto-completion of previously visited websites is not displayed when typing URLs into the address bar
  • Touch the address bar to activate the Blackout feature and turn the webpage black
  • Easily capture screenshots of pages from directly within the app and save them straight to your Camera Roll
  • Set your screenshots as your iOS device’s Home and Lock screen backgrounds
  • Share your screenshots with others online via email

Cons

  • There have been some complaints regarding the, for want of a better word, clunkiness of this app, with one user remarking that the app loads a Microsoft Bing advertisement every time the app starts up
  • The ads use data and slow down the overall user-experience

Final Words

Considering how many secure web browsers are available in the Utilities category of the App Store, I would recommend looking at a few alternatives before deciding to download Anonymous Web Browser with Blackout and Capture + onto your iPhone and iPad.
