Obituary app review

Reviews

Introduction

If you no longer wish to wait until Sunday to pick up the newspaper and look through the obituaries, then you might want to check out the Obituary app for the iPhone and iPad.

What we have here is an amalgamation of obituaries collected from thousands of papers across the U.S., as well as internationally, in one place, so users may easily find the relevant stories they are looking for about the loved ones who are no more.

This app costs $1.99 and can be found in the News section of the App Store. I think the app is definitely well worth its price because it carries all the obituaries within the United States that they can legally publish, making it an all-encompassing and comprehensive resource.

A Comprehensive Collection of Obits

The Obituary app takes up 32.7 MB of space on your iOS device. I imagine most of it is taken up by the designer user interface, which is not only beautiful to look at but also enables easy browsing, reading, and sharing of the stories contained within.

Obituaries are organized beautifully into menus that display locations starting from country to state to city, so you can find stories in specific areas much faster than having to sift through papers or scour individual websites.

If you cannot find entries from your local paper on the app, you can send in a request to the developers who will ensure they add it in barring legal issues.

Share Obits & Honor Those Who Have Passed

Each of the entries provides users with a brief preview of the obituary along with a link to the complete article as well as options to share it via Facebook, Twitter, or even email. Users can also add it to their favorites or write comments if they wish to do so. I personally really like the idea of being able to share the obituaries so that we may pass along the news of old friends or distant relatives' passing to those who may be touched by the news and wish to honor the deceased.

Recent obituaries of celebrities and other eminent people are also available along with war heroes who passed away in battle.
